Bortoletti Gritti wooden calligraphy set for elegant handwriting and desk display
The Bortoletti Gritti wooden calligraphy set is a highly refined writing set created for those who appreciate traditional handwriting, artisan materials, and Italian craftsmanship. Made entirely by hand in the Bortoletti workshop, this elegant set combines a wooden calligraphy pen, a decorative inkwell, a pen holder, and four vintage nibs in a presentation that feels both practical and beautifully decorative.
As a writing tool and a desk accessory, the Gritti set is designed for writing important words with style while also bringing a sense of heritage character and Venetian refinement to the workspace.
Handcrafted wooden pen with elegant traditional character
The Gritti set centres on a handcrafted wooden calligraphy pen with a classic, understated appearance. The natural warmth of the wood gives the pen a pleasing feel in the hand, while its balanced proportions make it suitable for both writing and display.
Glass inkwell with hand-chiselled bronze detail
The inkwell is made of glass and finished with finely hand-chiselled bronze, creating a decorative focal point with real desk presence. Its decorated hinged lid adds further character and refinement, making the inkwell a small gem of design and craftsmanship in its own right.
Complete set with pen holder and four vintage nibs
This writing set includes a matching pen holder and four vintage nibs in perfect working order. The inclusion of multiple nibs makes the set more versatile for customers who want to explore different handwriting styles, while the pen holder provides a practical and elegant place to rest the pen between uses.
Suitable for English cursive and traditional scripts
The vintage nibs included in the Gritti set support a range of writing styles. Fine-point nibs are especially suited to basic writing and English cursive, where their flexibility allows pressure variation on the downward stroke to create the characteristic contrast between light and dark lines. Broader truncated nibs, cut transversely in the style of a traditional quill, are used for scripts such as circular writing, ancient Gothic, and modern Gothic.
Designed with Venetian balance and refinement
All the details, finishes, and proportions of the Gritti set reflect careful research and a balance between artisan tradition and innovation. The project was conceived with an elegant play of geometric balances in Atelier A 70 in Venice – Mestre, giving the set a strong connection to its place of origin and a distinctive sense of design.
No ink included in the inkwell
Please note that no ink is supplied inside the inkwell. Suitable ink refills are available separately on this website, making it easy to complete the set and choose the calligraphy ink that best suits your writing style and preferences.
Decorative appeal for desk or study
As a decorative element or for writing important words, the Gritti calligraphy set makes a striking addition to a desk, study, or creative workspace. Its combination of wood, glass, and bronze gives it a heritage-inspired presence that feels both elegant and timeless.
Bortoletti Italian craftsmanship
Bortoletti is known for elegant writing instruments and desk accessories inspired by Venice, decorative metalwork, and traditional Italian craftsmanship. The Gritti set reflects that heritage through its handcrafted wooden pen, hand-finished bronze detail, and thoughtful balance of function and ornament. It is a writing set that combines beauty, practicality, and artisan quality.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for asking, but unfortunately we don't offer an engraving service just yet...
I have just invested in a wonderful engraving tool and will hopefully off this service very soon. Just give some time to practice.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Kind regards,
Jane
To change a nib in a Bortoletti dip pen, first pull the existing metal or glass nib straight out from the holder. If you are switching from a metal nib to a glass nib, you may also need to remove the small metal collar, or ferrule, from the tip of the holder using your fingernail. Once that is removed, slide the new nib into place and check that it is seated firmly and sitting straight so the ink flows properly.
